Safety cushion - the general information, precautionary measures and deactivation of system

General information

The driver's safety cushion is included in a basic equipment of some models, on others can be established in addition. The pillow is located under the central overlay of a steering wheel.

Giving of food in system is made only at the included ignition, however also reserve power supply on a case of break of the main chain is provided. Operation of the activator happens on an acceleration sensor signal. Control is exercised by the electronic block (ECU) which is built in a steering wheel.

Filling of a safety cushion is made for fractions of a second at operation of gas generators.

Precautionary measures

At service of the car equipped with safety cushions it is necessary to observe some special precautionary measures:

Precautionary measures of the general order

   a) Never switch-off the rechargeable battery at the working engine;
   b) Before performance of any works on service of the components located near the safety cushion block, removal of components of a pillow or carrying out welding works without fail previously deactivate system (see below);
   c) Do not make independent attempts of check of a condition of a chain of a pillow with use of any type of the diagnostic equipment at all;
   d) At operation of a control lamp of a safety cushion, or system failure at once ask for the help in company service center of the Citroyon company.

The precautionary measures undertaken at service of components of assembly of a safety cushion

   a) You transfer the removed assembly only a pillow up;
   b) Do not cover assembly by hands;
   c) Always you hold assembly by a pillow from yourself;
   d) Do not make attempts of dismantling of a pillow;
   e) Do not drop assembly and try not to shake it;
   f) Do not connect any diagnostic and other electric units to an assembly chain;
   g) Do not allow contact of components of assembly from any type solvents at all.

Rules of storage of the assembly of a safety cushion removed from the car

   a) The assembly removed from the car should be laid in superficial capacity a pillow up;
   b) Do not allow heating of assembly to temperature above 80 °C;
   c) Do not allow contact of assembly with an open flame;
   d) Do not try to sort a pillow independently;
   e) Do not install faulty assembly of a pillow on the car at all.

Deactivation of a safety cushion

Deactivation of system is made without fail before performance of any works on service of components of a safety cushion, and also located near assembly of elements:
   a) Switch off ignition;
   b) Take a key from the ignition lock;
   c) Switch off everything consumers of the electric power;
   d) Disconnect a negative wire from the battery;
   e) Insulate the negative plug of the battery and a tip of its negative wire in order to avoid their casual short circuit on weight;
   f) Before starting service of components of system wait not less than 1 minute, having allowed to be discharged finally to the condenser.

Activation of a safety cushion

   a) Make sure that in interior of the car there are no people, near a steering wheel no foreign objects are laid. Close all doors and windows;
   b) Make sure that ignition is switched off, then connect a negative wire to the battery;
   c) Open a driver's door and, without entering into salon and without giving a hand over a steering wheel, include ignition - the control lamp of a safety cushion on a steering wheel has to join approximately for three seconds, then go out;
   d) Switch off ignition;
   e) If the control lamp does not work as it is described above (see point c), address for consultations specialists of car service.
