The angles of installation of wheels - the general information, check and adjustment of convergence of forward wheels

General information

The geometry of a suspension bracket and the steering drive of the car is defined by four basic installations: disorder, corners longitudinal (выбег) and cross inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel and convergence. All parameters are expressed in angular sizes (convergence can also will be defined in millimeters). Only convergence of forward wheels of the car is among the parameters which are subject to adjustment.

Disorder is called the corner on which the planes of wheels are rejected from a vertical. Disorder is called positive when the upper edges of wheels are rejected from a vertical outside. Otherwise speak about negative disorder.

Corner of a longitudinal inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel is called the corner on which the axis of turn of a wheel is rejected from a vertical in the disk plane. The corner is considered positive when the axis is inclined by the top end back.

Corner of a cross inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel is called the corner, between a vertical and the imagined line drawn through suspension bracket rack support at a view of the car in front or behind.

Convergence is called the size at which distances between lobbies and the rear edges of inside of rims of disks of wheels differ. At positive convergence the rear edges of disks are placed more widely, than lobbies and vice versa.

Check and adjustment of convergence of forward wheels

Exact measurement of convergence can be performed only with use of the special precision equipment and demands from the performer of rather high qualification, and therefore it is necessary to leave his performance to specialists of car service. The check described below should be considered only as estimated.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Check of convergence of forward wheels is made by measurement of distances between lobbies and rear inner edges of rims of rims and subtraction from the second result of the first. Necessary adjustment can be carried out for the account вворачивания / a reversing of tips of steering drafts for the purpose of change of length of the last.
2. Exact check of installation of convergence is made at the net weight of the car, i.e. the salon and the luggage compartment have to be unloaded, and the fuel tank is completely filled. Besides, correctly height of a road gleam has to be adjusted previously (see Check of installation and adjustment of a road gleam).
3. Before starting to measurements make sure that wheels and tires conform according to the tiporazmerny characteristics to requirements of Specifications. Check pressure of a rating of tires. Estimate degree of wear of a protector, size of a beating of wheels, a condition of stupichny bearings and components of a forward suspension bracket. Make necessary corrections.
4. Park the car on the flat horizontal platform, whenever possible with a hard coating. Bring forward wheels into rectilinear situation, then serially shake a back and a front for shrinkage of suspension brackets. Release the parking brake and roll away the car back on 1 m, then forward for the purpose of removal of tension from suspension bracket components.
5. Measure distance between forward edges of internal rims of wheels, then between their rear edges. Subtract result of the first from result of the second measurement and compare the received value to requirements of Specifications.
6. If need for carrying out adjustment takes place, prop up antiretractable boots back wheels, then a front of the car and establish to a poddomkratta it on props. Turn a steering wheel to the left against the stop, then count and write down quantity of naked rounds of a carving of a tip of the left steering draft. Now turn a steering wheel to the right against the stop and repeat check for the right draft. If on both drafts the same quantity of rounds of a carving is naked, on both sides of the car identical adjustments have to be made. If on one of drafts of naked rounds it is more, such asymmetry has to be eliminated in the course of adjustment.

Upon completion of adjustment the quantity of naked rounds of a carving on both drafts has to be strictly identical!

7. Clean a carving on the ends of steering drafts, having removed corrosion traces from rounds, in case of need moisten a carving with the getting oil. Release external collars and unbend protective covers. Slightly grease an internal surface of covers in order to avoid twisting them at rotation of drafts.

8. Mark the provision of a bar of the first draft in relation to its tip, then holding a bar from a provorachivaniye Rozhkov a key, completely turn off a lock-nut. Repeat the procedure for the second draft.

9. Adjust as appropriate length of drafts (see the prevention given above). Remember that reduction of length of drafts leads to decrease in size to convergence/increase in size of a divergence.
10. Having achieved satisfactory result, strongly tighten lock-nuts of tips of steering drafts. Make sure of correctness of landing of spherical fingers in the nests and similarity of quantity of naked rounds of a carving (in case of need repeat adjustment). If length of drafts to leave unequal, inevitably there will be problems with centering of a steering wheel.
11. Having adjusted drafts at identical length, lower the car on the earth and repeat convergence check. In case of need repeat adjustment. Having achieved satisfactory result, strongly tighten lock-nuts of tips of steering drafts. Track reliability of landing of protective covers of tips, make sure that covers are not overwound, then fix them by new collars.
