Replacement of blocks of disk brake mechanisms of forward wheels

Remember that brake shoes are subject to replacement only in a set and at the same time on both wheels! Replacement of blocks of only one of brake mechanisms leads to violation of uniformity of the grabbing effort and loss of course stability of the car during braking. Do not forget that the dust produced in the course of wear of frictional material of blocks may contain noxious to health asbestos! Do not blow off brake dust at all and do not inhale it. At service of brake mechanisms it is necessary to put on a protective mask or a respirator. Do not use for washing off of brake dust solvents on an oil basis! Wipe components of brake mechanisms only with methyl alcohol or a special cleaner.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Prop up antiretractable boots back wheels, then a front of the car and establish to a poddomkratta it on props. Remove forward wheels.
2. Disconnect an electrical wiring from sensors of wear of blocks (see the illustration Scheme of Connection of the Sensor of Wear of Blocks and Cable of the Drive of the Parking Brake).

3. Disconnect a tip of a driving cable from the executive lever of the parking brake on assembly of the brake mechanism and release a cable cover from a support ledge (see also illustration Scheme of Connection of the Sensor of Wear of Blocks and Cable of the Drive of the Parking Brake). Take the disconnected cable aside.

4. By means of flat-nose pliers remove a small spring clip of fixing of a fixing finger, then take a finger from a support (see also illustration of the Detail of installation of a finger of fastening of a support). In case of need use a suitable drift for knocking-out of a finger.



5. Release an electrical wiring of the sensor of wear of blocks from a clamp on the lower party of a support.

6. Lift a support up. Track that the flexible brake hose was not tense.

7. Take blocks from an anchor bracket of the brake mechanism. Try to remember how the ledge of an internal block in a piston groove settles down.

8. Measure the residual thickness of frictional overlays of both blocks. If at least one of blocks is worn-out over an admissible limit (see Specifications), it is necessary to make replacement of all blocks in both forward brake mechanisms. Blocks are subject to replacement also in case of detection of signs of oiling or uneven wear of slips. It is previously necessary to reveal a source of leak and to remove the cause of its emergence. Prepare new brake shoes and a set of fixing fingers.

9. If blocks are recognized suitable for further use, smooth out them a wire brush, paying special attention to purity of face walls and backs of metal substrates. Clean flutes in surfaces of frictional slips, having removed from them dirt and the got stuck foreign particles. Accurately clean pockets under installation of blocks in an anchor bracket of the brake mechanism.

10. Before installation of new blocks check freedom of movement of the directing finger, also estimate a condition of its protective cover. Remove with a brush from the surfaces of the brake mechanism brake dust (do not inhale it!). Check a condition of a protective boot of the piston. Examine the piston on existence of signs of development of leaks and corrosion. In case of identification of any sort of suspicious defects address section Removal materials, capital repairs and installation of supports of disk brake mechanisms of forward wheels.

11. New blocks have big thickness, than removed from the car old in view of what for release of space under from installation it is necessary to drown the piston in the cylinder. For deepening of the piston it should be turned clockwise. For performance of this task special branded Citroyon No. 9011-T adaptation is issued, however the piece of a metal core of suitable diameter will approach and just. Drown the piston in the cylinder against the stop.



Level the piston so that one of its grooves appeared opposite to directing support finger. It is well-aimed over a groove (b) has to settle down at the same time parallel to a pumping gate axis.

12. Establish brake shoes on the regular places (frictional slips to a disk). Track that the directing ledge of an internal block entered a reciprocal groove in the face surface of the piston.

13. Lower a support in regular situation.
14. Record an electrical wiring of the sensor of wear of blocks in a clip from the lower party of a support, then connect the electric socket to the sensor.
15. Fill in a support a fixing finger so that the opening under installation of a spring clamp appeared from the party of the mechanism turned towards an internal block. Establish a clamp.
16. Get on the regular place on a support a driving cable of the parking brake, connect its tip to the executive lever. Check correctness of adjustment of the drive (see. The parking brake - general information and adjustments).
17. Repeat the procedure for the brake mechanism of an opposite wheel.
18. Make sure of reliability of fixing of the car in the lifted situation, then start the engine and leave it working at single turns. Make sure that the lever the parking brake is released, then several times squeeze out a pedal of a foot brake for the purpose of activation of the mechanism of automatic correction of wear of blocks in supports. Release a pedal and make sure of reliability of fixing of wheels at raising of the lever of the parking brake on 6 — 12 clicks of a ratchet. Kill the engine. In case of need make adjustment of driving cables of the parking brake (see. The parking brake - general information and adjustments).
19. Once again make sure of serviceability of functioning of brake mechanisms and the drive of the parking brake, then establish to the place of a wheel, lower the car on the earth and tighten wheel bolts with the required effort.
20. Check the level of hydraulic liquid (address the Head Routine maintenance).
21. Remember that full efficiency of braking is reached only after extra earnings of new brake shoes. Try to avoid sharp braking throughout the first 100 — 150 km of a run.
