Check and adjustment of turns of idling and prevention of a spontaneous stop of the engine

THROUGH EACH 20 000 KM (12 000 MILES) OF THE RUN

The tachometers of usual type working from pulse signals of system of ignition at diesel engines are not applicable. Special I will corrode serves for connection of the branded diagnostic equipment Citroyon, for obvious reasons which is absent in an arsenal of the average amateur mechanic. At emergence of suspicions on violation of installation of turns of idling (aurally) it is necessary to try to get a special tachometer, or to drive away the car on car repair shop company service center of the Citroyon company.

Before starting adjustments the engine should be warmed up to the normal working temperature. Make sure of correctness of adjustments of cables of gas and management of turns of bystry idling (see the Power supply system - diesel models).

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Establish an adjusting washer of the required thickness (see Specifications) between a control lever of the pump and the screw of adjustment of turns of prevention of a spontaneous stop of the engine (see an illustration of Adjustment of TNVD of production of the Lucas company).
2. Delay the lever of a manual stop of the engine back against the stop and record it in this situation, having passed a 3-millimeter core (the drill of the corresponding diameter will approach) through an opening in a control lever turns of bystry idling.
3. Turns of the engine have to be taken the value corresponding to the frequency of a predotvrashcheniyasamoproizvolny stop (see Specifications).
4. In case of need performance of adjustment weaken a lock-nut of the screw (4) (see an illustration of Adjustment of TNVD of production of the Lucas company) and begin to rotate in the corresponding direction, achieving satisfactory result. Upon completion of adjustment do not forget to tighten a lock-nut.
5. Take a lock core (drill) and an adjusting washer and make sure that turns of the engine decreased to single (see Specifications).
6. In case of need weaken a lock-nut of the screw of adjustment of turns of idling and make necessary adjustment, rotating the last in the corresponding direction. Having achieved satisfactory result, tighten a lock-nut.
7. Having shifted a pump control lever, lift the frequency of rotation of the engine to value of 3000 rpm, then quickly release the lever. Duration of a deseleration has to make from 2.5 to 3.5 seconds, and the frequency of rotation of the engine has to fall to value to about 50 rpm below single.
8. If the deseleration occurs too quickly, and the engine becomes deaf, turn out the adjusting screw of prevention of a spontaneous stop on a quarter of a turn in the direction of a control lever. Too slow deseleration reduces efficiency of braking by the engine. In this case the adjusting screw should be returned, on the contrary, on a quarter of a turn, having taken away it from the lever.
9. Having finished adjustment do not forget to tighten a lock-nut, then double-check installation of turns of idling, in case of need adjust them repeatedly (see above).
10. On the engine working at single turns check serviceability of functioning of the lever of a manual stop, having turned it clockwise (see the Power supply system - diesel models). The engine has to decay at once.
11. Disconnect a tachometer.

Models without turbo-supercharging

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Weaken a lock-nut and turn out the adjusting screw of turns of prevention of a spontaneous stop of the engine so that it left contact with a pump control lever (see an illustration of Adjustment of TNVD of production of the Bosch company).
2. Weaken a lock-nut and rotation of the screw of adjustment of turns of idling make necessary adjustment. Do not forget to tighten a lock-nut again.
3. Fill an adjusting washer or an edge of the probe of the corresponding thickness (see Specifications) between a control lever the pump and the screw of turns of prevention of a spontaneous stop.
4. Start the engine on single turns. Frequency of its rotation has to be equal to the value corresponding for turns of prevention of a spontaneous stop.
5. In case of need weaken a lock-nut and rotation of the screw (5) (see an illustration of Adjustment of TNVD of production of the Bosch company) make the corresponding adjustment (see Specifications).
6. Take an adjusting washer / probe and allow to fall a turn of the engine to single.
7. Shift a control lever turns of bystry idling against the stop forward and make sure that the frequency of rotation of the engine rose to the value stipulated for bystry idling (see Specifications). In case of need weaken a lock-nut and rotation of the adjusting screw (1) make the corresponding adjustment. Not to tighten a lock-nut.
8. On the engine working at single turns check serviceability of functioning of the lever of a manual stop, having turned it clockwise (see the Power supply system - diesel models). The engine has to decay at once.
9. Disconnect a tachometer.

Models with a turbo-supercharging

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Perform the procedures described in the subsection "Models without Turbonaduv", subitem 1 — 6.

2. Weaken a lock-nut and turn out the adjusting screw of a damper of a control lever located behind the last.

3. Fill an adjusting washer or an edge of the probe between a rod of a damper and the adjusting screw. Make sure that the control lever of the pump holds the position corresponding to single turns of the engine, then rotation of the adjusting screw achieve that with an easy resistance sliped the washer/probe in a gap between the screw and a rod. Fix the screw in this situation, having strongly tightened a lock-nut.

4. Perform the procedures described in the section "Models without Turbonaduv", subitem 6 — 9.
