Installation of piston rings


1. Before installation of rings it is necessary to check the size of gaps in their locks for pistons.
2. Spread out piston assemblies and sets of their rings on a pure working surface.
3. Fill the top compression ring of the corresponding piston in the first cylinder of the engine. The bottom of the piston push a ring in the lower part of the cylinder (15÷20 of mm from the lower cut).

Pay attention that compression rings differ from each other, - it is easy to distinguish the second from top on existence of a step from the lower party, besides, its external forming surface has noticeable conicity.

4. Take the piston, then measure by the probe of lezviyny type a gap - the required thickness the edge (see Specifications) has to slip hardly between face surfaces of a ring in its lock.

5. Repeat the procedure, having transferred a ring to the top section of the cylinder (at the end of a piston stroke), compare results of measurements to requirements of Specifications. If standard data are not provided, address for consultation specialists of car service.

6. When using company new piston rings the probability that gaps in their locks will be too small is rather small, - remember that the lock smykaniye at thermal expansion of a ring is fraught with jamming of the engine and its irreversible exit out of operation. In case of need it is necessary to correct a gap, by gradual grinding of end faces of a ring about the file clamped in a vice - densely put on a ring the lock a file and pull it on yourself (not from yourself in order to avoid risk of destruction of a ring at a lock smykaniye at all).
7. If the result of measurement exceeds admissible value (that in case of new rings is very improbable) before rejecting a ring, make sure that got a set of rings of your car of a standard size corresponding to the engine.
8. Repeat the procedure for the remained rings of the first piston, and also for rings of all other pistons. Do not forget that now each of the picked-up rings is strictly tied to the concrete piston.
9. After completion of check and correction of gaps in locks of all rings it is possible to start their clothing on the pistons.

10. The technology of clothing of rings on the piston is similar used at their removal. First of all the spring dilator of the lower (oil scraper) ring refuels in the flute on the piston, both of its side sections are established by a trace (locks under 180 ° to the dilator lock). Let's notice that both the dilator, and side sections of an oil scraper ring can be established by any party up. The second compression ring, and obligatory in the form of inscription "TORAHS" up, and the step party is established by an identification tag a trace down. The last the top compression ring puts on. In conclusion it is necessary to develop compression rings locks under 120 ° to the lock of a dilator of an oil scraper ring.
