Replacement of spark plugs

THROUGH EACH 30 000 KM (18 000 MILES) OF THE RUN

Efficiency of return of the power unit considerably depends on serviceability of functioning of spark plugs. It is important that candles on the standard size corresponded to the engine installed on the car (see Specifications at the beginning of this Chapter or the Head the Operation manual). On condition of implementation of the mentioned requirements and serviceability of a condition of the engine of a spark plug seldom need attention, besides need of performing procedures of routine maintenance of the car. Need for cleaning of candles arises also extremely seldom, the procedure has to be made only with use of special adaptation, otherwise the risk of damage of working parts of electrodes takes place.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. In the absence of factory marking on VV wires of spark plugs, mark wires independently by means of an adhesive tape according to numbering of cylinders (the first the cylinder, next to transmission is considered).

2. Try not to damage isolation of wires. Accurately remove tips of wires from shafts of candles (in order to avoid damage of the contact plug pull only for a tip, - at all not for a wire).

3. Before starting a reversing of spark plugs it is necessary to remove from their niches small garbage and dirt in order to avoid their hit in cylinders. Use a small brush, or blow niches compressed air (the ordinary bicycle pump perfectly will be suitable for this purpose).

4. By means of the special key equipped with an elastic insert turn out spark plugs. In order to avoid damage of the ceramic insulator try to hold at a reversing of a candle a key head parallel to its axis. Having turned out all candles, make check of their state (see further).

5. The external condition of candles can give a lot of useful information about degree of wear of the engine. If the working end of a candle shines and is free from raids and deposits, therefore, in combustion chambers too poor air-fuel mix moves, or the candle has excessively high kalilny number (heat removal in a hot candle comes from electrodes less intensively, than in cold).
6. If the working end of a candle and the internal central isolation center are covered with a thick layer of sazhisty deposits, therefore, mix is too enriched. The black color of a working part of a candle in a combination to traces of oil testifies to internal wear of the engine, or also excessive enrichment of mix.
7. Golden or grayish-brown coloring of a working part of a candle is the evidence of the correct configuration of air-fuel mix and good internal state of the engine.
8. One of the major parameters defining efficiency of sparking of a candle is the size of an interelectrode gap. Nominal rates of candle gaps are specified in Specifications.

9. For installation of an interelectrode gap measure it by means of the special probe, then extremely accurately turn in a side electrode in the corresponding direction. Do not try to correct at all the provision of the central electrode as it can lead to failure of the internal porcelain insulator that is fraught with the most serious consequences. The probe of lezviyny type of nominal thickness has to slip hardly in a gap between electrodes.


10. Special tools for correction of gaps can be bought practically in any shop of automobile accessories.

11. Before installation of candles make sure of reliability of fixing of carving nozzles, and also of purity and serviceability of a condition of rounds of a carving. Often profit a candle in a carving opening of a niche without distortion it appears rather difficult. In order to avoid damage of a carving to a head of cylinders at such distortion put on a piece of a fuel hose of suitable diameter a candle shaft. Grasp the end of a hose with fingers and begin наживлять a candle. As soon as the distortion causes the noticeable resistance to rotation, the hose will begin to be turned that completely excludes risk of damage of a carving.

12. Having finished nazhivleny candles, remove from it a hose piece. Further tightening is made by means of a dynamometer key. Working in the same manner, install all spark plugs on the engine.

13. In conclusion, connect to candles of VV of a wire and establish into place all components which were removed for the purpose of ensuring access.
